ABOUT US

The Houston Underwater Club, Inc. (HUC) was formed in 1957 and in 1969 the Club was chartered as a non-profit corporation dedicated to furthering sport diving and activities relating to man’s involvement in the underwater environment.  We are an active club with a diverse membership, bound together by common interests in the underwater world.  Our interests have expanded from sport diving to underwater archaeology, underwater photography, ecology and marine biology.  Diver education, training and safety are our primary concerns.  Because people with common interests quickly become friends, we also have an active schedule of social get-togethers.  Our activities are as diverse as our many interests:
    •     monthly meetings with educational and entertaining programs;
    •     seaspace®, with its international film festival, symposium, and academic scholarship program;
    •     diving in the Gulf at the Flower Gardens National Marine Sanctuary and on various Oil Rig Platforms;
    •     trips to the Caribbean and other parts of the world for superb diving;
    •     other activities related to man’s interest in the sea;
    •     local non-diving activities such as fossil collecting, camping, wine tasting, happy hours, etc.

Meetings are held at the Tracy Gee Community Center, 3599 Westcenter Drive (see map below) on the third Friday of each month, except for the month of December.  Meetings are open to all and are informative, interesting and varied.  Guests are always welcome.  Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for socializing and the program starts at 7:00 p.m.  Meetings generally last until 9:00 p.m.  After the meeting most of the members adjourn to a local Restaurant for dinner and camaraderie.
Check our Club Calendar for details of our monthly programs.
